Choicer Voicer Mic Delay: Reduce Recording Latency

Diagnose Choicer Voicer microphone delay, late playback, Dub Mode sync, virtual audio routing, and device latency without assuming a universal fix.

8/21/2026 Updated: 8/21/2026

A Choicer Voicer microphone delay can describe three different problems: hearing your live voice late, getting a saved take that starts late, or watching a Dub Mode performance drift away from the video. Identify which delay you have before changing settings. The developer has explained that audio routing can add substantial latency and that compensating for every recording setup is complex, so there is no single published delay value or guaranteed slider setting for all devices.

Identify where the delay appears

Record the same short phrase three ways: in the operating-system recorder, in the official No Gameplay Demo, and in one default Choicer Voicer prompt. Clap once before speaking so the start is easy to recognize, then listen to the saved files rather than relying on the moving waveform.

Write down an approximate delay only after this comparison. “About five seconds in the saved take” is more useful than “the mic is broken,” because it separates latency from a silent recording or wrong output device.

Build the shortest audio path

Connect one physical microphone before launching the game and select a conventional stereo output. For the baseline, close OBS, voice changers, DAWs, noise-removal suites, spatial-audio tools, browser calls, virtual cables, and mixers. Disable direct monitoring only if it is the late signal you are hearing; do not disable the actual capture device.

A wired microphone or headset is the simplest comparison. Bluetooth can add buffering, especially when it switches between high-quality playback and headset capture modes. This does not mean every wireless device will fail, but it makes a poor first baseline for a timing-sensitive test.

Restart the game after changing the input or output. Use default content first and change one item per run. The microphone-not-working guide covers silent takes; this page is for recordings that exist but arrive late.

Test Dub Mode separately

Dub Mode combines recording, video decoding, and pack timestamps. Play dub_video.ogv in a normal media player before editing microphone settings. If the video itself stutters, solve decoding or device-performance trouble first. If the video is smooth and the saved voice starts at a consistent wrong point, compare the pack’s timestamps with the official dub-pack structure.

Do not edit every timestamp to compensate for a delay that also occurs in the official demo. That would hide a device-level problem inside one pack and make the pack wrong on other systems.

What version 0.5.2 does not establish

The official store currently lists non-dev 0.5.2 files, but the earlier 0.5.2-dev2 post was a microphone-recording test, not a dedicated latency release. The current store warning also remains visible. Use the current official build, but do not assume that changing versions is a complete latency fix.

If you compare versions, keep each archive in its own folder, use the same devices and default content, and repeat the same phrase. Preserve whichever setup produces the shortest stable saved recording instead of stacking unrelated changes.

Separate current reports from a universal setting

An August 11 topic in the game’s official itch.io community describes a saved recording starting so late that the player felt forced to speak before pressing Record. A separate August 15 Dub-pack report concerns audio placed exactly at the start of a timeline. These reports establish real, current timing tasks, but they do not establish one cause or one compensation number.

Do not copy a pack creator’s timestamp adjustment into a system-level microphone problem. First identify whether the late event is the captured voice, a clip at time zero, the visual recording bar, or live monitoring. Apply a pack-specific edit only when the same microphone is on time in the system recorder and official demo.

Prepare a useful issue report

Include the operating system, game version, microphone and output names, wired or Bluetooth connection, stereo or multichannel state, any virtual audio software, where the delay is audible, and whether it is constant or grows. For Dub Mode, add the pack source and whether the OGV file plays smoothly outside the game. Never include account credentials or stream keys.
